If you want to skip the talk, scroll down to the bottom of the page for a list of trips and links to trip descriptions. Please note that right now (April 2017)  this is a work in progress. The list will be finished soon. If the trip you're interested doesn't have a description contact me for details.

Trekking in the Alps - my company, has been organising walking holidays in Europe since 1991. Trekking in the Alps specializes in offering guided treks and holidays for small groups and private groups. I aim to guide all the trips myself, and each year new holidays are offered. When you call or email, you will speak and deal with me personally, so you can be sure to get experienced advice and answers to your queries.

Treks will run with a minimum of 3 people, occasionally 2. It is extremely rare that I have to cancel a trek due to lack of numbers and I will always try to make sure you get your holiday.

Many people assume that walking in the Alps must involve snow and ice skills, crevasse and avalanche dangers, and lots of equipment. Not so! There are many miles of paths in the Alps which allow walks to be undertaken without getting involved in the high mountains and their attendant dangers. Trekking in the Alps aims to lead you to the more remote places in the areas we visit, to find walks that are not frequented, to take you to summits and to allow you to go beyond your expectations.                                                                                                        Tour of Mont Blanc

The flowers and wildlife in the Alps are fascinating and I’ll be very happy to share my knowledge of these with people that are interested.

Equally many regions have wonderful local food and wine, which it would be a crime to ignore. So we take the time to enjoy these extras, notably on the Italian trips and in Provence and Corsica.

What’s on offer?

My treks are generally multi-day, but I also offer hotel based weeks where we do day walks, with maybe one overnight in a refuge.

Multi-day treks are usually between 6-9 days long and nights are spent in mountain huts or small hotels. We don’t camp. We are on the move each day and we carry our necessary gear with us. The accommodation always provides bedding and food so your gear can be kept to a minimum. The huts and hotels have been chosen for their stunning situation or their regional specialties. All huts provide good, filling food, and beverages of all kinds, including beer, wine and local liqueurs.

Hotel based trips are offered in different locations of the French Swiss and Italian Alps, Corsica; Provence and Mallorca. We stay in charming local hotels and each night we’ll return to base, except for one night which is spent in a mountain hut where possible. These weeks offer a flexible itinerary which can be adapted to the conditions of the group and the mountains. There is also the possibility of taking a day off during these weeks.

Summit Weeks which are now very popular. The summits are all non-glaciated, accessible to walkers, and the routes are flexible, which allows us to explore the regular trekking trails. These weeks are based in hotels but will include two day treks, staying overnight in the mountains. These weeks can be gentle or strenuous depending on the group. Snowshoeing Alps

Winter walks are done on snowshoes and are based in the Alps – the Mont Blanc Region, Swiss Valais, Italian Aosta Valley and the southern Queyras, Ecrins and Dauphiné Alps. These 4 and 6 day holidays are hotel based with sometimes an overnight in the mountains. Hut to hut treks are not generally offered on snowshoes because this can be limiting according to the snow conditions. It is preferable to remain flexible on itinerary and to go to the areas that are safest and have the best snow on the day. Many people hire me privately for instruction and daily guiding.

Custom made treks are available if you hire me privately. You can do this for any area, with the idea of doing a trek or holiday that isn’t in my brochure, or just to have a private group. Your dreams are the only limit here!

Where do we go?

Trekking in the Alps began by offering treks solely in the Alps, but over the years the programme has evolved and expanded and now runs a whole range of walks and holidays in various European destinations - "The Alps" does not really cover it anymore! As well as the French, Swiss, Italian and Austrian Alps, I also offer trips to the nearby mountain ranges of the Dolomites and, further afield in the Pyrenees. I have been trekking in all these areas for many years and have discovered numerous hikes that take us away from the busiest routes into the real back country.

I also guide trips in Corsica where there is excellent hiking both in spring and summer. I do not guide the famous and very busy GR20 route, as I prefer to take my groups into the solitude of the summits and valleys away from the crowds.

I also offer great hiking weeks in the wild northern part of Provence where not only do we discover the wealth of hiking but we also take the time to sample the excellent food and wine of the region. For more information, just visit my other website Trekking in Provence

You can also ask any number of questions by email or even phone me.

Please note that this list is not definitive because each year I do new treks and go to new places, so if your dream destination isn’t listed it’s still worth asking.
