Gorgeous Provence

Gorgeous ProvenceThis 6 day holiday takes place in the Alpes de Haute Provence region of south-east France, an area which though not far from the busy Côte d'Azur coast, is in fact a region of deep gorges, high plateaux and charming villages. Add to that fabulous Provence cuisine and wine and you have a wonderful Provence holiday.
Our trip begins in the historic town of Vence, ideally situated between the coast and the foothills. Our first two days will be spent discovering the fabulous craggy summits and perched villages in the Arrière pays Niçois…great hiking with far away coastal views. Then we’ll head inland along the Route de Napolean to the town of Castellane, the gateway to the Verdon Gorge.
However, we’ll be saving the gorge until last, and we’ll do a couple of amazing hikes from Castellane, before heading right into the gorge for two nights at the entrance to the gorge. We’ll do one high walk way above the valley and we’ll also take the very famous trail right through the Verdon Gorge, under towering cliffs, with the jade Verdon river right below us.

EQUIPMENT: You'll just need a day sac so you shouldn't be carrying too much. I strongly recommend trekking poles as the terrain can be quite steep and rugged.

DIFFICULTY:  2  The walks are can be quite long. Be ready for ups and downs as usual and bring walking shoes with good soles. The weather should be nice and sunny but it can rain (otherwise there wouldn’t be any flowers or vines!). I expect to walk in shorts and a T shirt, and to be fairly comfortable, not too hot. Just right in fact!
